Basement AC problem outside blower stops when #2 Comp online

I have a Itasca with basement a/c. When the air conditioner comes on, the inside blower comes on, the 1st compressor comes on and all works fine. But if the system tries to turn on the 2nd compressor, the amperage shows that the 2nd compressor is ON, but the OUTSIDE blower stops working. The inside blower is working, but the outside blower stops working when the 2nd compressor is involved in the cooling process. HELP!

  • Update: Got this fixed. It was the control board. Ordered new PC Board kit and after some help from AirXcel, all works fine now.
  • Sequence should be, outside blower and compressor #1 start. Inside blower comes a few seconds later. 15-20 seconds later outside blower shuts off and #2 compressor starts. A second or 2 later outside blower comes on again.

Yours is doing everything correctly except to restart the outside blower. Could be a control board, there are lights on the control board that will tell you what it 'thinks' it's doing or if there is a problem. A google search should get you the service manual with troubleshooting steps.
  • Yes. We tried replacing capacitor but that’s not the problem.
Hopefully I can find a replacement board??
    Where to find??
  • Do you have the 6500 series Basement model? If so, then the odds are the Main Control circuit board has a fault. That board controls ALL functions and logic of the Outside compressors and Blower motor and indoor blower. For some reason when the 2nd compressor comes on line, the board relay is opening for the Outdoor Fan, causing it to stop running. Since the Blower fan runs on Compressor 1, that rules out a fan capacitor problem. If your unit is the 2001 you have listed in your profile, then a Board replacement would be the first thing to try.
