You parallel the sixes to make two big 6v
Then put them in series to make 12v

Both of the original diagrams short the batteries together - kaboom!

Bobbo has it right.

Are those 12v or 6v batteries?

Neither drawing really works.

I see left and right, and left side is wired for zero volts.
