Battery charges when plugged into shore power?

When my RV is plugged into 110v (30a) power, does the battery charge? Or, is the power from the battery "shut off" once connected to other power source? Always wondered this as without elec hookup, my battery goes dead in a few weeks. I just recently asked about battery disconnect sw which was helpful.

  • The house battery will charge from your converter. Your chassis batteries may or may not. Disregard references to inverters. They have nothing to do with charging batteries. There are converter/inverters that are both in one package.

  • Yes, if you have a converter or inverter. Some are better than others. Few weeks while plug in or when being used on battery power? One is not good and the latter is great. They should not die while plugged in.
