Battery recommendation

Hi, what are the latest recommendations for a good deep cycle battery for my trailer? I want wet flooded; not AGM. In a Group 24 size. I'll need two.

My local RV shop recommends Interstate at $116 but they are "combination"; not true deep cycle. I asked about this; he says "that's what everyone uses."

I disagree and want true deep-cycle technology. They also seem not to be stocked in any of the local auto-parts stores; only combination batteries.

I've heard Tojan recommended in the past. Is this still the case? They seem to be very hard to find around here though; I may have to travel to find them. Any other brands?
  • You want flooded over AGM? Don't hear that everyday. AGM can be shipped to you.
  • Look at Costco or Sams GC2 Golf Car batteries for best value.
Otherwise all the G24 batteries are about the same.
  • Group 24 deep cycle are rare and expensive. If you insist on G24, get the combo batteries at Walmart, they have a liberal replacement policy and are in every larger town in the country.
  • Do you have the height available to put in a pair of 6V golf cart batteries? That would likely be the best bang for your buck provided it would work. There are also 12V GC12 batteries available that are a little different form factor; you might be able to fit one (but not two) in where a pair of 6V GC2 batteries would not fit. The 6V ones are far more common and somewhat less expensive per Ah.

Actual deep cycle 12V batteries in standard car battery size are rather hard to find and are consequently rather expensive.
  • That isn't what everyone uses. What else doesn't this "RV" guy know? Trojan 24TMX Deep-Cycle Flooded are Group 24 but 12 volts.
