MEXICOWANDERER
Oct 13, 2018Explorer
I've measured the voltage at the battery terminals while running the microwave, and the voltage does indeed drop to 10.5V
Fascinating
A lot of responders did not read the OP's simple to understand post.
6 cells of GC220 battery cannot support that kind of load -- period
6 additional cells of GC220 will support the load for x amount of minutes, like for warming coffee or doing a baked potato.
12 additional cells will support the microwave for perhaps 20-30 mimutes continuous.
Does the OP have that much extra space? For the batteries?
Substituting a pair of high CCA AGM batteries like Full River or Deka would allow a microwave to run for perhaps ten minutes depending on battery temperature. 3 group 31 batteries would add another 5-7 minutes and this is due to Peukert it is not simply additive.
One thing about big battery banks is while 6 cells of wet may be sipping say 9 amperes of charge, 18 cells would be accepting 27 amperes.
18 cells of flooded battery can power DC hotel loads for many days at a time. In any event both max upgrades call for a minimum of 100 amperes bulk charge rate.
Beware of inflated generator ratings. Cheapos measure things while going down a steep hill with a 100 mph tail wind.
