When I was looking for mine several years ago Walmart no longer sold them. The only other one that I came across was a 40 amp Stanley. I called and talked to one of there Eng's and he told me the Stanley bought out the B&D chargers and that the newer Stanley 40 amp charger was basically the same as the B&D except for better control systems. I was all set to buy the Stanley for $99 when I found a B&D at big lots for $50 so I bought it instead. I would imagine they still show up on the secondary market from time to time. I posted this here several years ago and several bought the 40 Amp B&D for $50. I like the charger.
I was under an impression that the VEC1093 was no longer being made. Can anyone affirm or deny? - jrnymn7ExplorerI wonder if that 2a thing was just a misprint on a particular production run, and they just let it go?
I didn't realize how big these things were! A lot of wasted space, especially in the rear storage compartment. Now I'll have to buy more stuff, just to pack in there. :) Well, I guess once the cables are no longer bound up, they'll fit more easily in the large compartment.
And the clamps have a ton of tension to them... I might just use them to exercise my hands and wrists. :) - BFL13Explorer IIBoatandrv has that same picture with the 2 amp and it has the 4 amp. Weird picture!
- jrnymn7ExplorerThe vec1093dbd arrived today. It does have a 4a setting; not 2a.
- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerYou guys are starting to sway me. The old transformer HF I can fix but the kids chop all the powwr to the restaurant when they leave. Barely three hours to recharge a 31. The path from the enramada is jokingly (almost) straight up. Lugging a battery back and forth is (school of hard knocks) a real pain. I am going to have to disassemble any charger and carefully coat circuit board and exposed conductors with silicone dielectric grease. Tropical big-wave salt mist is The Creature From The Black Lagoon, on exposed circuits here. Got to get that kid to open up the HF and replace that breaker.
- jrnymn7ExplorerIt may be a Canadian model?
Model: VEC1093DBD-CA - sh410ExplorerI was under an impression that the VEC1093 was no longer being made. Can anyone affirm or deny?

The description says 4/10/20/40 Amp charger, but the enlarged picture of the charger says 40 amp/20 amp/10 amp/2 amp charge rates. Is it really a VEC1093DBD?
Good point. I would say it really is because it has the Equalize feature as seen there, but the 2 amp vs the 4 amp is weird.
The older Vector 1093A had 2 amps instead of the 4 as the low setting, but it did not have the Equalize, just the Recondition.
Vector was bringing out the new version with Equalize as their 1093D model when they were bought out by Black and Decker, so that became the "VEC1093DBD" we all know and love. :)
Where they get them from to sell these days is anybody's guess, but they go "out of stock" and you think that's it, and then they re-appear! The cat came back kind of thing.
Maybe the secret source has mixed up their cloning in this case, and got that low setting as 2a. That would be a bummer for Equalizing instead of starting at 4.1a--take forever. - MrWizardModeratormine is over 4yrs old
it has run many hours, the longest period it was connected was 5 days in August 2012 in 100* temps
it does get an all day work out several times a month
i must have thousands of hours on it, considering it gets around 30hr per month use
but it hasn't stayed connected for two weeks
it is a charger and equalizer NOT a dedicated power supply like an RV converter or Megawatt etc.. - ScottGNomadWhile the charger doesn't have a float mode it does continue to monitor the battery and will kick back on if it see's it's voltage level drop much.
I've used it to keep a vehicle battery charged while I was restoring it and listening to its raidio. Ran it for about a month that way and it kept the battery in top shape.
The B&D works great as a backup charger in case of a converter failure or a sudden dead battery in another vehicle.
