Getting shocked is one thing, but completeing the circuit between the black and the white/bare is a story you may not live to tell about.
When I was a dumb kid, maybe 10-12, I plugged in an old cord w/ the bare ends sticking out, and wondered how hot it was. I flashed a screw driver across those bare ends,...and it was like that screwdriver exploded, blowing fire into my face !!!! So I learned early on that a shock is nothing compared to getting between the black and the white.
Many of us have been shocked by 120 or even 240 - and yes, we get the full voltage.
It's not voltage that hurts or kills us (I have contacted 20,000 or more volts) it's the current.
The current is what made you screwdriver explode.
