Bearing re-pack

seals and bearings are stamped with a number. when taking seal out be careful not to damage the number. take old parts with you to auto store.

Get your axle number underneath and contact Dexter. They can send you everything you ever wanted to know about your axle.

Also measure the seal contact surface on the hub, to be sure. A couple .001" can an does make a differance.

That's where I got all my info. I would first identify which Dexter axle you have. Depending on the weight of your trailer, you probably have 3500# or 5000# axles. Once you know which axle you have the rest is easy.

Some auto parts stores don't have a clue how to cross reference for seals. I have had good luck with my local NAPA store.

I recently re-did my bearing repack and took an old seal with me to my local NAPA store and bought 4 new ones, for about $8.50 each. Perfect fit, they were.

They better fit. $8.50 is an outrageous price to pay for a wheel seal.
Even a bearing for the wheel cost 1/2 that much !
