What are the best charge controllers out there?Mostly looking at Mppt. Reading about some doing flaky things, or not charging properly (bad electrical design).

First you need to know what you want it to do with your batteries.Then there will be several to choose from that can do that, especially if they are adjustable. No point asking anybody else who doesn't know what you want it to do.

Please elaborate as I thought there was only one thing to do to batteries.

You can get lower cost but my Morningstar has been perfect.Very flexible programming.

I have the EpSolar charge controller with 200 watts of solar. The controller is 8 years old and has been charging the same batteries (a pair of GC2's) for the full 8 years. The batteries are still going strong.

Not exactly, but we've been very happy with our Victron SmartSolar 75/15. We have it on the Victron network with our BMV-712 battery monitor so it can adjust for temperature.
