Bike Hauling Question

We got the kind that lets you take the front wheel off in about 10 seconds. When we had a tent camper we put the bikes inside it. With a trailer we put them in back of the third row seat. They lay flat with the front wheel off, put it on the bed.

This is what we do....bed of truck and some bungee cords as needed.

Have you thought of something like this? Ladder mounted bike rack

What’s wrong with putting it in the bed of the truck? May have to remove the wheels but ... Otherwise put it inside the trailer.

For a Biclcye I too would just put it inside or perhaps lay it in the bed of the tow vehicle in front of the hitch (not bening).

I have a bracket that goes on the ladder that can carry a bicycle I used it for something else if you were in SC instead of AZk, i'd PM you and you'd do me a favor. but alas It's not expensive to buy one if you want to. Holds bicycles or chairs. You need some straps to make sure.

I'm not sure I'd trust an RV ladder with much weight bouncing down the road however. They are not that strong in my not very humble (I pulled mine off with one hand. NO screwdriver, just one hand) opinion.

I agree with fj. My 30 year old mountain bike is mounted on the TT tongue but the road bikes go in the TT or Tahoe.

Why would you buy an expensive bicycle and not buy a proper bike rack? By “expensive” do you mean a thousand or more?

Even more of a reason to put it inside. I'd never haul my Merlin road bike in a casual fashion on the back of my trailer. If you're just really wanting to get it home, I'd put it inside, and cushioned well.

I was trying to say that the only bike that should be carried like you're considering is a throw-away bike, not a good one.

Shoot, if it's that cheap of a bike, just sell it on Craigslist and buy another when you get home. Otherwise put it inside. Not that big of a deal unless it's a three wheeler. Without some kind of bike carrier it's going to get pretty beat up, both the bike and the trailer.
