Black plastic flakes in faucet aerators

I have noticed my faucet aerators always get clogged up with little flakes of a black plastic or maybe rubber like substance just small enough to plug up those fine channels in that plastic device that aerates the water just prior to exiting a faucet. I keep the fresh water tank very clean and everything gets flushed out periodically. Maybe the water pump impeller? Anybody else having the same issue and maybe a solution?
My rig is a 2006 fifth wheel and I almost always use the fresh water tank and almost never a city water connection.

  • Are the pipes connecting faucets etc black? If so I suspect the cut some of it in the install and your seeing the residual shavings. No big deal - will require you to clean out the faucet filters for a while.

It is also possible that a new filter cartridge was installed without being flushed first (see the instructions for your filter).

There you go, debris in the water tank. Fill, drain, fill, drain, fill, drain, and eventually it will go away.
  • Yes, all faucets. Water tank was recently replaced. Can't really tell if the shower is affected. The pump strainer does not collect anything and I don't have a sink sprayer. And thanks, I guess I do realize they are diaphragm and not impeller.
  • If you have a sink sprayer, check the diverter in the faucet body.
  • Water pump typically have diaphragms vs impeller.

    ALL faucet aerators.......kitchen, bath, shower??

Just one faucet? If just one then I would suspect the internal washers on that faucet.

ALL the faucets........very strange. By now (2006 Model) all debris inside fresh water tank should have been cleaned/flushed/pumped out.

Is the strainer on pump collecting any thing?
If not then it's pump diaphragms coming apart or the seals in a faucet.
