If your RV is not parked level your gauges will not be accurate.
The gauges are located on one side of the tank. So if your RV is not level as the tank fills up it will not register it correctly if the RV is tipped away from the side the gauges are mounted on. As it fills up it will eventually hit the sensors on the other side but you will be almost full when it does. AND it doesn't take much of the RV not being level.
And if you are tipped toward the toilet it will come right up to the top when you look down the toilet yet the tank is not actually full as it would be if you were perfectly level. And also the gauge can't read it either.
I was tricked by this ONCE when I was trying to stretch my time before breaking camp to dump at a sporting event and I was parked on an un level site, not thinking about that aspect and going off my gauges.
My gauges work ALL the time. Albiet I contribute that to how I take care of my tanks so they are able to work properly.
