Blackwater Tank Question

Two weeks back we had an issue where we had 36 hours of blackwater and nowhere to dump. closest dump station was over 1 hour away (Flying J). We ended up having to do that, but my question is how long can a small amount of waste be kept in the blackwater tank? We would only have been back in storage for about 5 weeks before we went out again. What do you all do when confronted with this situation? My thought is make sure I have lots of extra water in the tank, add one or two of the deodorizers, and then dump next time I'm out. Is this a dumb idea? Has anyone done this in the past? Thoughts?

  • These are HOLDING tanks NOT septic tanks. Dump da SH!T before is settles and sticks and you will have no issues.
  • I had an issue where I pulled my black tank valve and nothing came out, despite pouring the water to it, so I used Septobac and put 1 package in with a bunch of water and it ate the solids up in less than a week and got things flowing. I now use it regularly in my tank.
  • Water is they key, lots of it. I once saw a used trailer at a dealer that did not have the black tank dumped after its last camping trip. It had solidified like concrete. The dealer maintenance guys were trying to get it to absorb water and to get it back into a liquid state. The shop guys seemed to be very frustrated with the whole process.
