6 drops per gallon. 6 drops equals 1/16 teaspoon. 6 teaspoons equals 1 ounce. Therefore: 1 teaspoon for 16 gallons or 1 ounce of bleach for about 96 gallons of water. That is the Chlorox manufacturer recommendation. You can google their web site for the ratio. I use about 1/2 oz for my 60 gallon tank.

I've read a few other opinions. Some say one teaspoon for 5 galleons. Some say one teaspoon for 10 gallons. Some say it depends on how quickly you want it to be disinfected. It also depends on how "dirty" the water is. Start with a lesser amount. Maybe 1 teaspoon per 16 gallons as above. Stir and wait a bit, if the water has a slight chlorine smell then you added enough. If you can't smell it at all, add more until you detect a faint odor of chlorine. If you really want to be sure too can buy test strips to measure the chlorine parts per million.

The "standard" measurement is: 1 cup per 15 gals of water.Now keep in mind that there are different levels of chlorine mixes. The typical house hold bleach (Purex, Clorox) is only at 3%...whereas pool chlorine is a lot more. The above measurement is for house hold bleach.FWIW, your owner's manual will probably have a "winterization" section that will stipulate how much to use. Check it out first.Ron

He was asking how much to add so you can drink it. Some RVers don't read. Everyone can google it at Chlorox bleach company. I took it right off their web site. Doubt I would drink the water with one cup for 15 gallons. I wouldn't even take a shower in it. Some RVers, like me live in a rural area. Guess what? We don't have natural chorine coming out of the ground in our drinking water. When we fill up our fresh water tank it grows stale and can become contaminated quickly. The solution is we add chlorine bleach as I indicated. We can drink it and bath in it. It will be just like you city water.

The proper amount of bleach to add to your fresh water to preserve it's freshness leaves you with approximately 1ppm free available chlorine residual. Because there are many variables that changes the chlorine demand, you should get a pool test kit to determine your residual. 1ppm free available chlorine residual is the desired amount in a swimming pool. Most municipal water districts like to see about .4-1ppm free available chlorine residual in the water that they put into the public water lines when it leaves the plant.
