Well, i decided to try it myself. It took few hours but thanks to youtube i got it done.

He told me he called his buddy from the RV store where he used to work and they supposedly charge $85/hour and figure, what I need done, to be about 6 hours of labor. I guess at those rates I am getting a bargain.

Reason I started looking to get it done is because my brakes dont seem to engage as well at highway speeds as they do going 25mph.

Brake life depends on many factors, miles traveled, type of terrain, how tight brakes are adjusted to drums, etc.

For price comparison only. There is a guy who repacks trailer bearings in RV parks during snowbird season in Yuma, AZ. for $75.00 an axle. You don't move the trailer, he comes to you.

I have turned wrenches all my life. Spent years restoring cars etc. The older I get the easier it is to pay someone else. I just hade mine done with new seals and brake insp & adj for $200

If he does a good job it's worth it and in line with what other shops charge, ie around $100 or so per axle.

I just paid $160 for my tandem trailer wheels. He found one bad bearing and had to replace it. He repacked the others and adjusted the brakes.

I found this dealer/RV park owner a few years ago when I needed my awning replaced.
He charged me $600 for a new awning and the installation, and the awning now rolls up and comes down much better then the old one did.

I'll continue to go back to him even though he is over an hour away.

The big box guys will make an appointment for several weeks or longer from when you call them, and this guy will take you within a week.

The only part that would need to be replaced for a typical bearing repack and brake adjustment would be the seal. Seals are cheap. If you've done any kind of mechanical work at all, you can repack a bearing and adjust the brakes. If you have no clue, then you should have it done, because if you do it wrong, it can lead to bearing failure. The price you were quoted sounds about right. It is a high profit job
