Brake master cylinder?

Vehicle: 2005 Chevy C5500 Kodiak, 8.1 gas Gulf Stream Endura
My brake pedal goes to the floor but will pump up. First impression is master cylinder. The strange thing fluid is coming out of the cap on the reservoir. No fluid has been added.
Any suggestions.

  • The brake reservoir was over full and the power steering reservoir was low.
It's headed to the shop tomorrow morning, driving very carefully.
    Thanks,
    James

I suspect you have a "hydro boost" system.

Hydro boost uses power steering pump to give you the boost needed instead of a vacuum assist.

You may have a issue with the hydro boost pump system leaking hydraulic fluid INTO the brake system.. That would be the only way I would think your MC could have fluid coming out of it without you adding any. If I am correct your power steering fluid will be low.

As suggested, do not continue driving until you find and fix the problem. Seek out a mechanic if you do not feel comfortable troubleshooting and fixing, it is your lives at stake..
  • Where is the fluid with respect to the full line when on level ground?

Can you see fluid coming out of the top of the the reservoir when the brakes are applied or it it just wet?

Does the master seem to be loosing fluid (is the level staying the same)?

If you pump it up and then hold your foot on the brakes does it slowly go back to the floor?
  • Soething is BAD wrrong! Better get it fixed quickly, and don't try to drive it till you do!
