It could be the relay that allows you to shift from park into a gear.
It could be caused by low voltage to it due to a loose or corroded connection.
Try shutting down with the transmission in neutral. Turn to on, depress the brake pedal to see if it is there. If it is not, the linkage could be out of adjustment.
