just checked dpreview, they gave the tamron a 73 rating and the sigma a 76 rating. have no idea what those numbers indicate however. but obviously they are close. you can go there and the site has complete reviews and specs.
one thing that concerns me with that DP review. the tamron was introduced Dec 2010, the Sigma June 2012. don't know if that is the latest version of the tamron but I would "assume" that the sigma might have some additional tweaks due to advanced technology. just a guess. at this point I would go with Sigma.
I see that the sigma is not available for the sony NEX E mount so that leaves me with a Tamron at $739.
