Can I install this temp sensor in Ford E40D test port?

Hi all, I would like to know if it would be safe to install this 1/8" NPT temperature sensor probe in the test port of my 1990 E40D transmission with it's longer "nose", or if I need to get a port ...

About the time you sent this I was online with their tech support by chat message and they have suggested some tests of resistance.

I will be doing this soon to zero in on the problem.
