The suggestion of a possible vacuum occurring while traveling at highway speeds is worth looking into. I had a somewhat similar problem with a roof mount ac on a class b rv. because the dash ac had blown a hose and lost all the refrigerant, I tried starting the generator and running the ac off of it. It worked as long as the vehicle was stationary but once it reached freeway speeds for a couple of minutes, the breaker for the ac would trip and had to be reset. It did it a few times and I finally gave up trying to use the ac while traveling.
Once we reached Arizona and really started baking from the summer heat, I got desperate and got on the roof of the rv and removed the plastic cover that houses the ac. Things worked fine after that and lasted another 750 miles till I got home.
Others will tell you that they don't have any problem with using their ac with the generator while traveling. Just saying some do and some rvs of a different design don't.
