Can't run A/C at home: solved -- see 8/21/16 update

Very strange. I would have expected the compressor to have a time delay, to protect it from potential damage of rapid restarts.

Who knows, perhaps your neighborhood was experiencing a brownout, perhaps there's a problem with the AC unit. Or a number of other things. As my old Uncle Pete was fond of saying, "Maybe yes, maybe no, maybe rain, maybe snow."
