Can't run A/C at home: solved -- see 8/21/16 update

True.

With the a/c running for a few minutes (if you're going to do that again) check all the connections (on the supply cords) for heat. That's a sure sign of a poor connection or simply too many amps for that device.

Do we have a voltage reading yet?
