It would be crazy to go down to 10.5v resting when there is no need to and wreck the batteries. The 10hr/50% version is valid.
If you don't have an AH counter for the test, the time it takes to get to 50% at the 20 hr rate compared with 10 hrs can be used as described above. If you do have an AH counter, you can cross-check that with the time method to have more confidence in your result.
Some time back we had threads about whether the 50% SOC point was really half way down in terms of time. Best not to go there again!!! :(
