Regarding the 65-100% I did the other night,
I had Vabs set to about 14.4v. Apparently this was plenty to get the bank gassing, at about 70F ambient. Only a couple of hours in; so still a ways below 14.4v; I could hear, but not smell, the bank gassing.
Next morning, shortly after it dropped to float, I opened the cabinet and took SG readings. They were in the 1.280 to 1.300 range, and possibly still climbing. Not sure what actual battery temps were, though.
Even after taking the readings and topping up the water levels, from about half way between the plates and fill skirts, to right up to the fill skirts, there were still a few bubbles now and again, along with the occasional 'visceral belch'. So it appears these batteries will do well in that voltage range.
