Carefree Awning strut replacement

Our 2014 Lifestyle’s 2013 Carefree awning (Travl’r model) seems to flap a little more than I would expect. The canvas is in good condition so I don’t think it is stretched. I suspect the gas struts are weak.

Even with the serial number look up, I still have some uncertainty with the strut selection.

Two selections - Steep pitch or flat pitch

Since we have a 5th wheel and our awnings do NOT extend over a slide, I suspect we have the steep pitch. The awning has an 18 deg angle.

Our gas struts have a 23.5” body (depending on if you measure from clevis or not).

I suspect I need p/n R001331 has strut (35.374” ext length).

Does anyone have any experience with these and if so, can you offer any guidance?

Thanks
  • Did you call Carefree tech support, they will have your answers.
  • I will try them this week. Today was the day It annoyed me enough to start researching it. Lol

    Thanks
  • Search for gas struts and save a ton of money buying from a company other than OEM.
  • I replaced the struts on our steep pitch Carefree awning - here is a link to the part - strut

Very useful site. It seems I have the flat pitch or at least the longer strut.

    Thanks
