Cell Phone Signal Booster

Hi Team,

Considering adding a Cell phone signal booster to our rv. Something like this one:

Wilson Signal Booster - Small Area...

Anyone have and opinions/experience with them?

Thanks
Dan

  • The DT 4G is not designed for mobile use, and is too powerful for an RV or Motor Home. The Mobile 4G will be the best LTE option, and is scheduled to release the first quarter of this year (2014).
  • Wilson is a good company. However, you will want to use one of their systems designed for mobile applications and not for buildings. If you use a "building" system you may not be able to achieve the physical separation between the indoor and outdoor antennas that is required to avoid interactions between them. The mobile systems are better designed for RV applications.
  • If you can handle the minimum 20ft installation separation between the inside and outside antennas, along with the need to aim the directional outside antenna towards the nearest cell tower, the DT4G should work while stationary anyway. Going down the road usage would be hit or miss though
  • Things may have improved, but six years ago I got a Wilson antenna and booster for the MH. The booster did nothing so I sent it back.

The antenna did give me one extra bar on the cell phone. The problem there was I had to have an external antenna direct plug in for the cell phone to gain that extra bar. Without a cell phone that had a direct plug in, I got no gain at all.

Looks like your setup is a much improved version and may have better luck. Make sure you can return the product if you run into issues like I had back in the day.
