Champion 3500W Generator producing 190v

I have a Champion Generator Model 46515 generator that is currently producing 190 volts. The engine switch has gone bad and Champion is sending me a new one. However, I noticed the meter is bouncing around 190v and I confirmed that with my multimeter. I have checked all the wiring and it is secure. I'm wondering if I have a bad AVR? Could the engine switch not working cause this?

No, it is not the dual voltage.

The WIZ is wrong. I have the same model, which is not dual voltage.
  • My champion had a voltage regulator go bad. Company sent new one even though it was off warranty. No problems since.
  • Your version is the one with the 120/230v switch ?
If so, it Could be a bad voltage selector switch
Other wise yes, the avr is bad

    On the Dual voltage models
Never switch the voltage with the generator running
  • Maybe (Moderator) The Wiz will jump in.......or
