My evening opened up, so I did some digging on the generator.
I double checked the valve clearances, they are good-per the champion data sheets - 0.006 intake, 0.008 exhaust.
I pulled the main & pilot jets, and ran a couple of strands of copper wire through both, then washed with carb cleaner. They looked clean before and after.
Thanks 2112 for "encouraging" me to check the VR - I increased the voltage to 125 unloaded. It felt a bit low at 119, but people were talking about fiddling with the governor to increase it, and I thought 63Hz unloaded was plenty. Now it's 63Hz, 125V unloaded.
I put everything back together, and was about to check the voltage on both legs of the 240 output & do the starter fluid thing, but of course the starter rope broke. It was pretty frayed, so it's been on its way out for a while. I'm calling it a night. :)
Thanks again for all the input, I enjoy tinkering with this stuff!
