i stand by what i said.
engine's under light load will hunt.
engines at full throttle or heavy load, may stumble for a second, then will shut pretty much straight off. i proved this 20 minutes ago when my generator under full load shut off from lack of fuel, just stumbled for about 3 seconds and shut straight off.
op needs to spray carb cleaner when it stalls, its the quickest test.
Something is wrong with your gen.
I have a 4Kw and a 8Kw gen and both I can easily turn off the fuel while under load and they WILL stay running for a MIN of 5 minutes if I simply start closing the choke slightly at the first sign of hunting.
The fuel bowls are decent size and should easily support a couple of minutes after fuel is turned off, shutting off in seconds after fuel is turned off would indicate that you have a partially clogged jet or float is not set at correct height (starving the fuel bowl).
And by the way, you don't even need to spray Ether or carb cleaner if you are having hunting issues, CLOSE THE STUPID CHOKE SLIGHTLY to see if it is a lack of fuel.. These are manual chokes, USE THEM.
My 4Kw gen even when new was hard to start in cold temps and had to run partial choke, after I CLEANED the jet it starts like a dream even in cold weather and choke is only needed to get it started.
This stuff isn't rocket science, you should really try something hard like a 100+ yr old single lung engine with atmospheric intake valve (no cam or rocker for the intake).. That WILL tear your hair out..
