The Champion 3500/4000 is durable, easy starting and while it's not as quiet as a inverter model, it's quieter than most open frame construction units. I had the basic unit for years and recently upgraded to the remote electric start version.
The Champion 3100i inverter model came out not too long ago and it was recently upgraded to remote electric start. They are quieter and have gotten very good reviews.
The Champion 2000i inverter units are close to as quiet as you are going to get with any brand, pair two of them for AC.
Considering you can pick up a 3500/4000 for under $300 on sale, you just can't beat them.
