It is an industry standard. Unless of course they have started the Herb Tarlek maneuver. It's similar to the Heimlich maneuver but a person first eats for a week without going to the bathroom.
Hairpin stator winding reduces winding temperature with relationship to watts produced. Therefore a 150c rating isn't such a deep slump from ambient.
Why isn't every current alternator hairpin design?
COST
The stator has a LOT more copper. Diodes must be much higher capacity. The diode heatsink has to be more exotic. A much higher rotor field draw increases the cost of a voltage regulator by magnitudes.
The car manufacturer bean counters would get diarrhea at the mere thought of this added "unnecessary" expense.
Remember Nippondenso invented a gear reduction starter motor for big rigs, that...
Delivers twice the cranking power of a Delco
Uses 45% of the wattage of a Delco
Lasts longer
Costs less
And weighs about half that of a 40, 42 or 50MT Delco.
Stubborn Stupidity is going to relegate US industry to the status of Lucas electrical components. I will not see it - I will be feeding a tree.
