I'm more into whipping it good. 14.8V if they've been good, tweak that PWM charge controller to 15.0V if their SG reads like a bad report card, grades are too low. Then it's time to crack that whip. Is that waterboarding your batteries into submission, or really just pouring the fridge's contents down a group of teenage boys gullet?
I suggest Flogging Molly daily with 14.8V on the solar gig, and give her 15V every 10 to 14 days, with the previous night going really light on the electrical power consumption before you crank it up the following morning to top 'er off.
