Folks, please listen to these guys. They have hands-on experience. I have test lab experience as well as field experience. Ignore advertisements, and advice from people who do not cycle their batteries heavily and for extended periods. BFL has gone through a great deal of time and trouble to document his findings.
REGULAR CONVERTERS DO NOT WORK RIGHT to automatically and correctly maintain heavily cycled batteries for extended periods. Note the word REGULAR. It is important.
If you are a weekend-warrior, or power pedestal RV'er ignore the chatter unless you are curious. It takes sometimes WEEKS of heavy cycling to arrive at the point where special charging techniques are warranted.
The majority of chatter deals with the best agreed upon method to deal with keeping batteries alive and well under severe conditions. There are various valid methods as described by forum members. THERE IS NO ONE WAY THAT IS BEST FOR EVERYONE JUST AS THERE IS NO ONE CONVERTER OR CHARGER THAT IS GOING TO "DO IT ALL FOR EVERYONE". This isn't rocket science. BFL, NinerBikers, Mena, and others are doing a lot of footwork that should be paid attention to.
