I used to post how I didn't need any silly Trimetric until I got one six years ago. Now I think that you can survive without one, but why suffer? :)
Just get your voltage up to 14.2+ on the battery and continue one more hour and shut down. You need more go an extra 30 to 60 minutes but amps are tapering. OK to go less if you just need to get through an easy night and roll in the morning. No ammeter needed, just check the voltage.
Spend the monitor money on more battery or a better converter and the monitor is even less critical.
