That is todays proper way to do it, but just so you know,.....if all connections are perfectly clean and making good positive contact, there is nothing wrong w/ connecting to just one of the batteries.
And if all the connections are not clean and making good contact, they should be, because if their not, the batts will not charge properly no matter how you connect the charger.
