Charging house batteries

Good Morning
I need some expert help and think you guys are the best. My brother has a Winnebago View. I replaced the 2 house batteries with 4 Trojan T145's. I also put in a Xantrex pure sine inverter. The inverter does not have the charger built in. The manual shows the house batteries charge when the motor is running. I would like to set it up so I can charge the house batteries when the generator is running or it is plugged into shore power. My question is what would be the best charger for the 4 Trojans. I removed the little cooler or whatever it is and put in a shelf for the batteries. I have room to put a charger there unless someone has a better idea as to location and wiring.
Thanks in advance
Pam
  • Inverters don't charge batteries, so did you disconnect or remove the converter when you installed the inverter?
  • Post the converter model for best replacement options.
Even if the OEM converter works... you still want a new replacement with those batteries.
  • Is the Coverter showing 12/14 volts coming out?
Maybe you blue a fuse on the converter.

    Double check your wiring.
  • Thanks for the info
I did check the voltage and it did not increase. It has been plugged in a week and the batteries are still down. I must have missed a wire. I read the owners manual and it showed the house batteries charged off the motor there was no mention that the converter also charged them. I will check again
    Thanks
    Pam

The converter that charged the two 12s should still be charging the four T-145s when the Rv is on shore power or generator.

X2 To verify this measure the battery voltage with the shore power unplugged and with it plugged in. You should see an increase in voltage. The increase will depend on the make of converter you have.
