JID isn't cranky, well maybe just a little after being volunteered to trim out the MIL's house, rewire the outlets and hangs lights. Luckily the 8-Ds are resting till tomorrow night because I didn't get it all done today. (lovely stuff, cloth insulation and no ground. I really need to rewire the house)
I will have to do a load test because I don't have the other toys. 25a would be what, 300 watts or so on an inverter? I can use a clamp meter to make sure I am in the right range.
Now the chance that these 8-D's are going down to 50% without being load tested is pretty slim outside of us being on the road and caught in the monsoon for a week or two. That's 337 Ah AND even when it's cloudy, the solar does bring down something. Believe it or not, we do know how to cut back the usage in bad weather. I think I remember how to make coffee on the stove, warm up the beans in a pan and even though Honey doesn't think so, I can't tell if the hair dryer has been used or not. Take the big loads out and we can go a long weekend in crappy weather with a grp 27 and the solar putting out 4a.
That will be a few years away and by then I'll have whatever is needed to keep them up with the generator as a last resort. Until then the best I can do is charge them individually with the 40-50a the system can put out.
I saw in the manual that it mentioned something about 500a per 100 Ah of bank. For three 8-Ds, that's over 3000a. Just what do they think I can buy that would put out that kind of power. 4-5000w of solar tracking maybe. lol
Thank you for the chart CA. It looks like between 20 F and 90 F I might be able to get away with the MS temperature comp. Above or below that I will have to manually adjust OR disconnect the batteries for the short time those conditions exist. As mentioned, I do have a IR temp gun for while charging.
Am I in over my head? Oh yes. So far that you could have chained a 8-D to my feet and dropped me off the dock. It's not the first time of course, wont be the last either. It sure is a lot easier with you guys trying to help me out by explaining things in layman terms. Even then it will take time to absorb it all.
Lifelines are like a lot of things people hold up saying how wonderful they are. Once you buy them you get the Paul Harvey moment when someone says and now for the rest of the story. I am still convinced they will be more than worth the effort. Maybe if I start saving now I will be able to afford a new set when these need replacing.
Thank you all again for the help. At least I'm on the right path. ( I think)
