Jim, as you say 50% DOD is not likely at all. By the time you move to more full time use you'll have more capability from generator for big amps. Just poke them with the genny if/ when solar is not doing what you believe the batteries would like.
I'm reminded of some discussions some months back about who's serving whom, us or the battery bank. My lifelines are gonna have to suck it up when they conflict with my needs.
My situation is not unlike your own other than doing the generator charging install first and solar last. When complete I'll put in some generator when DOD gets around 75% or so and let solar top it off. I don't expect to need that genny often with 600 ah. Solar is my next project.
