Boy if three seconds upsets you, what do you do when you have to go to the bathroom?
When you find the "ideal" charger for AGM please post. Hand's-off would be my cup of tea as well. Unfortunately all that is available is NESCAFE.
The optimal charge regimen is one that maximizes the achievement of the goals of the RVer. I am sure I am not the only one here that seeks to emphasize the R in RV. Comments to those who may NOT want to focus on The V are unflattering to your usual fine contributions. Perhaps a :) now and then would help.
Noone is proposing 'Hands-off', just less 'Hands-on'.
Choosing AGMs is a big step towards reducing hands-on. Automatic chargers are another step. Temperature compensating(TC) chargers are very important as well. The TC charger sets the Volts per the battery temp, then the charge rate is governed by the battery.
My ideal is a high-Amp genny driven charger that can hold good Abs Volts until it is economical to let solar finish the charge. I do not have enough roof real estate to go full solar.
Both of my solar chargers are TC and hold float Volts constant rather than on-off.
I am a journey rather than destination RVer. Therefor, the solar plays a large part in keeping the batteries charged.
I have been 100% AGM since Jan 2009. To date, I have been satisfied with cost, life, and service.
