Some of today's charging systems can not be modified regulator wise. Some voltage regulators are inside the ECU computer. Change field resistance, or modify the field circuit in any way and the ECU defaults to the Limp Home Mode, the control system goes open loop, and the check engine light comes on. I've not kept up with some of the newer in-the-alternator voltage regulator systems but many charging systems send "Field Reports" through an alternator "C Terminal" connection to the ECU.
If the battery manufacturer says it can live with the unmodified vehicle charging system set voltage, then fine. If the voltage needs to be modified, then with MoPar vehicles it's a no go. With others, use appropriate caution before attempting modifying. It looks like the days of Do-It-Yourself alternator voltage regulation are over (sigh).
