Chassis battery

This has happened to me 4 times.. First time the coach was still under warranty, So I crawled under where the chassis battery hides and disconnected it, load tested it, and re-connected it cleaning up the connectors a bit in the process.

Next time .. Same thing

Next time.. I skipped the load tester and just cleaned the contacts.

Last time (nearly 9 years after delivery, over Battery was bolted in in Aug 2004 and last time was earlier this week so that is what 9.5 years) I dropped in a brand new DEKA battery cause this time it FAILED the load test.

(Store said: Battery condition fully charged, less than half the cranking amps though, battery deceased) (Like I did not already know that, I mean I have my own tester).

Oh, and I did a bit of re-wiring to extend time between cleanings.

Start it up and see what voltage your getting at the battery. Will tell you immediatly if it's getting a charge or not.

I have a battery tender, but it never crossed my mind that I would need it on the chassis battery.

I will start it up again and let it run again for a while and see if it charges it. If that fails, I will take it out and take it to autozone and have them check it.

I take care of my batteries with solar panels and a trik-l-start. Of my eight batteries 4 are eight years old and 4 are four years old.

You might just try the battery connections. Put a meter directly on the battery posts and see if it reads differently than it does from the cable connections.

OR, like everyone else here has said, just throw it away, and then discover that it was a bad connection. Your choice.

Take your battery to AutoZone and they will test it and charge it for free. You need to have a heavy charger in your garage and a trickle charger on your battery during idle time.

I would be looking at chargers alright,......the one that is supposed to be charging the battery in question.
If after running for an hour, and it dint crank over, either the charging system (alternator) is not charging, or the battery is toast.
Start it back up and see if you are getting 13-14 volts to the battery.

When looking at chargers, what should I be looking for?

The water was fine on it when I checked it. Wasn't frozen. I guess I need to go and buy a charger.
