3 panels, 290 watts according to specs.
I haven't seem over 15 amps, and most times 12-14. It sure was not overheating.
Maybe you never got the batteries low enough or did not have a large enough load. I would expect to have seen 290 watts of PV array supply in excess of 20amps to the loads.
