Yes, it is hard to keep the wording straight, but if I ever say heat screws with MPPT I mean that is because the MPPT controller has the buck converter and the PWM controller does not.
The key is the PWM controller keeps passing the same amps to the battery whatever the panel temperature (within reason) but the buck converter has a lower output (in watts) with higher panel temperature. Now with the lower watts, and the same battery voltage, you get fewer amps.
