The question for me is, at what point (i.e; at what size array) is going mppt justified?
that depends on the individual in question
but my own opinion , is when roof space is maxed out, and you want to gain any bit you can, without replacing whole system (new panels) with the latest and greatest
and/or starting new and going for the MAX power output capability you can obtain, with the space available
in my own situation
IF i had the cash available i would install NEW poly panels, possibly series parallel with mppt and tilt and try to get 1000w on the roof
because of spacing, panels would be in the 100w-140w range not the humongous 240w panels, which limit the number on the roof
mppt because i want every watt that can be harvested
when planning and thinking
please remember, the RV is will never be the ideal install, and that GRID TIE will always look like its 100% perfect operation (only because the power grid can absorb every watt of power from sunup to sun down)
the ideal install for an rv
is the one that produces more power than you can use
this does not happen to most of us
