This pricing scheme is solely to knock down the commission Ebay robs vendors of with their outrageous percentage take on the bid price sold at. Ebay has continued to jack up it's price % take of each dollar a unit sells for that vendors are trying to beat the system by making money on shipping, not on the price the item sold at.
Consider it commission evasion, kind of like tax evasion. Big difference between avoidance, and evasion. Ask the IRS.
