Cheap Import Bearings

New bearings 8 months ago. Used Valvoline wheel bearing grease. We can blame this on a lot of things; dirt, poor lube, bad adjustment or whatever. I can assure you that it was assembled with utmost care. Since just a few rollers in each bearing are bad, it must be the quality. I'm replacing with USA Timken bearings.

    USA Timken bearings?

The last time I changed wheel bearings on my TT, I bought Timken bearings. To my surprise, stamped on the end of their typical black and orange box I found "Manufactured in China". :R

Fortunately, four years and thousands of miles later, those bearings are still holding up well.

Yes, USA, maybe I'll post a photo.

The bad bearings came with Dexter drums with the races pre-installed. I should have known better and popped them out of brand new drums.

  • Most foreign made items are inferior to those made in the U.S., however most things are not made here anymore, and that is a shame, I will gladly pay more for a properly made item (meaning U.S. made)
  • Lynnmor. I agree with you. USA made bearings are getting hard to find and hard to pay for. But the option might night you in the butt on the side of the highway.
  • as a auto shop owner I can buy cheap bearings or higher cost bearings cheap bearings don't hold up that's why there cheaper wont use them in my customers cars to many come backs
