Coleman AC Fan replacement

Coleman AC fan motor replacement:

The fan motor on my #7333C886 unit hums and gets warm to touch when turned on. With power applied the fan shaft will not spin freely. Without power, the fan shaft spins effortlessly. Changed out caps with known good capacitors from front unit and no change.
I'm assuming a dead motor and am looking for any tips in replacing same.
Thanks.
  • There is u tube video out there. Step by step. I did mine, quite easy.

Replaced the motor in our Coleman Mach 15 with a FASCO from Amazon. Does yours look like this?

    If so:

    1. It's pretty easy to change. On ours, it was pretty easy to change. I got good at it. See 2. below... The Inside Blower (squirrel cage), the plate that attaches Motor to Blower Housing, Motor, and Outside Fan, all come out as one piece. Our Fan was retained to the shaft with a hex screw clam. The Blower uses a 3/16" Hex Wrench (Allen Key) and if you have a long-enough one, there's a spot in the fins that gives you a straight shot at the Screw.

    2. I had ours out several times before I ordered the above from Amazon here.
Several times because the Sleeve Bearings got sticky once hot and wouldn't let the motor re-start. I can only think the porous material got soaked with something that kept keeping coming up sticky. So...
I kept that motor after installing the new one. The windings are still good. If you want parts, PM me.

I'd suspect something is in fact wrong with the windings in yours. When you tried the known good Fan Run Cap, did you swap the one from your suspect Motor into the Other A/C and confirm that it actually ran the other Motor? As well as the other one running the suspect Motor?

Around $100 for a Motor is good, especially if you can avoid a service call.

Thanks j-d, yes my motor looks like that and I did buy one from Amazon. I saw the You tube video but sadly my coleman is much older (97) and is designed differently. There is no 5 screw panel holding the motor to the frame. The squirrel cage is removed from the front in a very limited space behind the evaporator.

I tried to look the model number you provided, up on Airexcel's support pages. Said "Discontinued" like ours from 2002 does, and provides a replacement model number. Difference was, I could still access the parts list for ours. There were no "Documents" available for yours.

Many will say you're on borrowed time with a 1997 A/C. The last Coleman we had was from 1983 and we sold the coach in 2008 with it still running. Ran well, actually. I thought I'd have to replace it but all I did was clean it per Chris Bryant's thread on it, and it cooled well again. So, some of those units run a lot longer than we give them credit for. On the old one, I didn't repair or replace anything on the unit itself. Cleaned it, changed filters, oiled the motor. Moved a couple wires that were rubbing, replaced the shroud. That was it.
