According to Engel's website, it uses the Sawafuji, the same one Norcold used to use. They call it a swing motor. That's a manufacturer that I have not run across in my travels and I'm not going to condemn it because I'm not familiar with it. I'm not a fan of those compressors, obviously, but I'm willing to concede that some of Norcolds problems could be attributed to power supply issues, I don't know. So on the other end, it's possible that Engel has a "secret weapon" that makes it reliable in their equipment. I do know that at on point Norcold started issuing retrofit kits that consisted of a muffin fan that was mounted to blow upwards on the bottom of the compressor and if you replaced the cooling unit, Norcold would not warranty it without the fan kit installed.. I'm not sure what all of that means since I'm not an engineer, but I still question the overall quality of the Sawafuji. Obviously, Norcold does also or else they would still be using them.
