Hello,Please my questions are specific and I really don't want to start a discussion on which generator is best. Those discussions always get nasty and really don't help anyone.I have some questions on the new Honda EU2200 generators. It seems that they have the EU2200 and a EU2200 companion. The companion seems only to be used in parallel mode and provide a 20 and 30 amp RV outlet. On the Honda website the MSRP for the companion is more money than for the plain EU2200.Can you run two of the plain EU2200 in parallel mode? Why would I spend more money on a generator I could only use in parallel? with two plain EU2200 I'd have the option of splitting them up for use if need would dictate. Do the new parallel cables prevent you from connecting two plain EU2200 generators?Thanks!Dave

I believe you can run 2 - EU2200’s as they both have parallel ports. The only reason you’d buy the companion model is to have the 20 & 30 amp receptacles. You would probably need the parallel box that has the 30 amp receptacle otherwise there would be no benefit to doing it.Honda parallel operations Parallel box

From my research the only difference is the 30a outlet, so no worries.

+1The companion version can be run by itself. It basically gives you one 30 amp outlet and one 15 amp outlet, instead of the two 15 amp outlets the regular version offers. That's the only difference.

It just doesn't make sense to pay more and get less functionality to me. I would rather pay less and have two fully functional generators. You could probably dig out the L5-30 and insert a TT-30 if you really wanted it and warranty was expired already.

Not really - just DIY your own parallel box with a TT-30 receptacle. Here's one example. JMO, but my own choice would be 2 identical standard EU2200i gensets rather than 1 standard & 1 Companion.

Look at it this way...

A straight blade 30-amp RV connector is not vibration resistant -- the twist-lock resists vibration and accidental pull-out. Japan does NOT have USA types of home receptacles.

The first thing I did with a Yamahahaha diesel 5500 watt water cooled gen 30 years ago was to pull the panel out and replace the 120vac 15-amp receptacles with Marinco 20-amp marine 120-vac blade receptacles.

But touchees void the warranty.

A twist lock to RV adapter long enough to isolate vibration might be the best way to go. Wiring and breaker protection for the generator stator taps is worth the extra money IMHO. Think of voiding the warranty it helps with the financial pain :)

Would this work connected to two Honda 2200I generators?

That should work, but it's a bit pricey. I think the breaker is overkill with two Honda 2200's. My two 2000's make 26.6 amps continuous. The 2200's are rated at 30 amps for two. They have electronic overload protection built in. The advantage of the Companion is the 30 amp plug built in, but yes you still need parallel cables and the twist to RV adapter. So, you just need to decide what is best for you. The Companion will work by itself just fine and if you need more plugs out you can always use a plug strip.

JMO but I wouldn't call this adapter "pricey" considering the alternative is to buy a more costly Companion EU2200i. If anything I'd call it a really slick solution for those who would prefer to parallel 2 standard EU2200i gensets. :B

The EU2200i are only compatible with EU2000i or EU2000i Companion models within a specific serial number range:

EAAJ-2017305 through EAAJ-9999999
EACT-1000001 through EACT-9999999
Connecting an EU2200i with an EU2000i or EU2000i Companion that is not within the compatible serial range above may cause a low voltage output, which can damage tools and appliances powered by the generators. Units outside the compatible serial number range should only be paralleled with another EU2000i.

This is a quote from the Honda web site. Not what OP asked but important information if you have an older EU2000i as I have.

As a data point, I bought my eu2000i in early 2014 and it is NOT in the "good" serial number range. Not even close. EAAJ-1155402.
