Converter Fan

I have a 2009 Starcraft Autumn Ridge that has a 45amp Elixer converter. Usually when I turn on 3 12v lights I can hear the fan run. After getting to a campground this weekend all I needed to do was to turn one 12v light on and the fan would run continuously.

When I had all the lights out while sleeping the fan would cycle on for three seconds every 10. I do not believe I have any parasitic draw causing this.

I read the manual and it didn't say what activated the fan, whether it was draw of amperage or a temperature sensor.

So do I have an issue with the fan or converter?

  • How old is the battery? After a full charge will the battery hold 12.6+ volts for several days when disconnected?
  • The fan is coming on to keep the convertor from overheating. That is its job
  • Hmmm...Ok, I'll check it later tonight at the storage and also the water levels as well. Maybe cleaning of the connections are in order.

It's a Converter/Charger, correct? Wondering if the unit's running a different pattern because of someting on the Charge side. House Battery or Connection issue, perhaps.

X2 on the house battery. Check voltage of battery.
